What is it?

For many vehicles, all that is required to keep the engine at normal operating temperature is the standard radiator and coolant system. Oil cooler is added to the engine to provide further cooling capabilities and to keep the entire system within the normal operating temperature range. It primarily responsible for cooling an automobile’s oil. The oil cooler is usually placed near the radiator to maximize cooling airflow.

Engine oil is vital for most engine components, a faulty oil cooler can cause many problems including cooling system failure and engine damage (leaks, overheating and scarring as overheated oil loses it’s lubricating properties). It is important to keep all parts of the lubrication and cooling systems functional to be able to use your car. If left untreated, it will lead directly to engine failure. You need to replace a new oil cooler for this issue.

When to Get Oil Cooler Replaced?

Noted these symptoms that can alert driver that oil cooler may need to be replaced.

1. Oil leaking from oil cooler

One of the components that are part of the oil cooling system is the oil cooler adapter. If the oil cooler adapter fails externally, engine oil may be forced out of the engine.

2. Engine coolant leaking from oil cooler

Similar to a loss of oil, an external oil cooler failure may force all of the engine coolant out of the engine. It will eventually overheat the engine if it isn’t repaired quickly.

3. Oil in the cooling system

If oil cooler adapter fails internally, you may notice engine oil in your cooling system. When engine is running, oil pressure is greater than cooling system. Oil is forced into cooling system. This can severely damage your engine.

4. Coolant in the oil

When engine is not running and cooling system is pressurized, coolant can be forced from cooling system into oil pan. High oil pan levels can damage engine by crankshaft slapping the oil as it rotates.
